Student Service Learning

In School  FCPS has an approved program that enables students to meet the Maryland service-learning graduation requirement through studies infused into selected 6th to 12th grade courses. See the Middle School Course Guide (page 18) and High School Course Guide (page 15) for course lists.

Beyond the Classroom   Meritorious Service goes beyond Maryland’s graduation requirement by encouraging students to participate in service learning activities after school, on weekends and during the summer, with the objective to instill a lifelong spirit of community activism and involvement. Students are recognized at graduation. Get instructions and forms for signing up and documenting additional service beyond that earned in school.

Each middle and high school has a teacher-coordinator who facilitates meritorious service activities. High school students interested in working with community agencies and/or serving as tutors should contact their school's coordinator.

Please check out the Maryland State Department of Education's 7 tips for Best Practices of Service-Learning.
