Why School Meals?
FCPS students may buy lunch in the school cafeteria or bring lunch from home. The Food Service department offers meals (both breakfast and lunch) that meet nutritional guidelines for school age children. Milk is included with the traditional lunch or can be purchased separately. A la carte items are also available. Students with limited ability to pay may qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
All foods offered in the school meals program are approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Students enjoy items such as fresh-made pizza with low-fat cheese and fresh salads. The Food Service department does not sell candy, soda or other foods with no nutritional value.
When eaten as served and in proper quantities, school meals are:
Calorically age-appropriate and offer balanced nutrient content within the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Nutritious and tasty, offering less fat, sodium and sugar.
