Academics Through the Years
The preface to Frederick County Public Schools' five strategic goals states, FCPS will establish an environment that capitalizes on all children's natural curiosity, nurtures their desire to learn and respects their individual learning styles. In our endeavor to continuously improve student achievement, we ensure that each child --- regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or socioeconomic status --- meets established performance standards.
FCPS teachers are well versed in a wide spectrum of instructional strategies that help them address their students' diverse learning styles. We measure academic success one child at a time. |

Curriculum
Our essential curriculum, which can be viewed in detail at FCPS Teach, is aligned with Maryland's voluntary curriculum and provides students with a solid academic foundation. Each level and grade of schooling starting with prekindergarten builds upon the last, with the goal that every student will master the following by graduation:
Effective Communication Listen, read, speak, write and effectively use technology and other tools of learning.
Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Evaluate and analyze information, develop solutions, make decisions based on information and support solutions with details and evidence.
Social Cooperation and Self-Discipline Work cooperatively, actively contribute, recognize and accept the consequences of individual and group actions.
Responsible Citizenship Demonstrate knowledge about diverse geographic and cultural communities, apply principles of ecology to resolution of environmental problems, contribute actively in the community.
Lifelong Learning Recognize and practice the elements of artistic expression and health/wellness, develop and implement an ongoing career plan. |
